Welcome to Le p’tit carnet du coin !

Laurier-Sainte-Marie is a diversified and dynamic riding. It’s the Plateau-Mont-Royal, the Gay Village and a part of Montreal’s Chinatown; it’s the East side of the Main – St. Laurent Boulevard - , the riding of the Banquise, the Binerie, of the Pied de Cochon and of many Portuguese rotisseries; It’s the uptown Parc Laurier and the popular Place Émilie-Gamelin; it’s the setting of a thousand crossroads, of a thousand intersections where each street corner will lead you to new discoveries.

An urban, modern riding, open to the world.

It is also a riding facing many serious problems. To name but one, a problem which concerns me deeply: pauverty and the shortage of social housing, which when put together push people to the streets, the young and the old, women and men alike. Homelessness makes no cultural and linguistic discrimination. Often will I come back to this issue in this blog.

In this blog, each article will present one of these streets corners, describing the various ways by which pluralism and diversity are shaping this urbane community and how this diversity evolves. The riding’s many problems and challenges will be described. We’ll try to show how a liberal, responsible government, paying attention to the real needs and opinions of Canadians, could be a part of the solution to these problems and challenges.

I would like to represent this riding and its people in the Canadian Parliament and before the rest of the country as a Liberal Party of Canada MP, a party that promotes values that are worth defending, liberal values of social justic, of compassion, of respect of diversity and of individual rights. Residents of Laurier-Sainte-Marie deserves to take part in the decision-making like every Canadians, and they have an important role to play in the future of Canada.
